It was an amazing 3 days on set with Al Getting to do the hair on such a spectacular visual treat was really exciting , I was like a kid in a candy store and Al was a a delight to work for he not only starred , It took about 3 days of prep before hand but it all paid off . My self and Maxi The makeup artist where doing 15 min changes , as Al was putting on his elaborate costumes , one made entirely out of Steak the wig with the cold cuts had to be kept in the fridge :0 , & Al's a vegetarian ! It really did stink ! but looked amazing.

All the Usual fashion suspects where there , Including princess Theodora Of Greece who's star is slowly rising in Los Angeles as an Actress .

I was fortunate enough to get to do the hair for Julias Show . The clothes where beautifully made pastel Candy colored gowns and mini dresses .The models walked amongst the garden soiree and a faux grasscovered deck and mound , looking out over all of LA , from The hills to down town & the Coastline, It was a great beautiful fall afternoon

Hair was pulled back tight into a ponytail Sprayed with phyto laque The ponytail split and curled , and set then backcombed and set into movement building a foundation , for clusters of candy colored Butterflies made of feathers and pinned,perfect for a garden party .

It was a fantastic experience leading the Fred Segal Salon Team , for Mathew preece , I got to see all the looks that Tyra had chosen for the girls Then talk with the extensions specialist from the show , & then assign girls to the team members most suited to the hair , the Nordic hair extensions , they looked beautifully Natural. after the looks wher complete then It was tome do do the photo shoot , I got to work with every girl with their completed looks and work directly with the photographer , creating these beautiful images , a place I feel most comfortable although not seen much In the show theres a flash of the back of my head holding the fan , you can also see me snipping away at that beautiful Long Halo I got to cut & color Red , it was a complete day , from 8am till Twelve at night everyone enthused at the moment of change for the girls, with a full production team 18 hairstylists And 15 makeup Artists . all and all it was a hustle , and ended up with a great feature for our fantastic Fred Segal Team at Fred Segal Salon.

What a pleasure it was to go on the whirlwind tour across America to NYC and Back . Working with Camille Clarke And Eric Barnard , both swapping out doing Jamie's Makeup , and the wonderful Jane Ross Styling Jamie along the way. It is a pleasure being part of such an Exclusive team . We started out yesterday Doing Tavis Smiley, at KCET he' s always an interesting interview to watch and the crew nad interns very welcoming, we ran into Neil Sedaka. I used the Phyto volume at the roots , my favorite new Solano Blowdryer PINK FOR BREAST CANCER We prepped Jamie there for the show , and reconvened at the very cool Rosevelt hotel , Just up the street where swarms of people waiting for everyones arrival , It was a ZOO. BACKSTAGE WITH RENÉ FURTERER AND SEAN JAMES AT THE MINNIE MORTIMER SPRING 2011 SHOW

Creativity was in the air as René Furterer partnered with celebrity stylist Sean James, Workshop Director of the Fred Segal Salon in Los Angeles, for fashion designer Minnie Mortimer’s show, which kicked off Fashion Week Spring 2011 at the chic 1OAK club in downtown Manhattan on Wednesday evening, Sept 8. For the ultimate in styling looks that would be both sophisticated and shining with good health, Sean specifically requested products from René Furterer. Each of the 12 stylists on his team was equipped with a generous supply of René Furterer styling formulas, including the new Vegetal styling system. Above the cacophony of blow-dryers, Sean shared the inspiration for designing the hair looks for the show.

Referring to the lustrous glamour evoked by long, flowing styles worn by Lauren Bacall and Rita Hayworth during Hollywood’s golden era, Sean said, “It’s all about controlled sophistication. We call our hair look Pin-Up Girl Meets the Beach. The inspiration comes from Minnie’s clothes. The collection is sophisticated but casual. And it can be worn day into night, so I didn’t want hair that’s too overdone.”

Minnie herself told editors that the look of her collection has elements of both the surfer girl and the party girl. Sean continued, “With Minnie’s clothes we went for hair that’s glamorous and fashionable,

yet wearable.”

To prep hair for styling, Sean and his team started with René Furterer Volumea Volumizing Foam. “We work the foam through the hair with a brush,” says Sean, “quickly blow-drying hair to smooth out any frizziness. The Volumea foam helps to set the hair.” Sean’s fave blow-dryer: the BaByliss Pro Volare.

Next, hair was parted on the side. Why a side part? Again referring to the allure of the 1940s, Sean says, “Side parts defined the look of that World War II era. It was a sophisticated line like the pencil line that women drew down the back of their legs to make it look like they were wearing expensive seamed nylon stockings. A side part says, ‘We’re in control. No matter what the chaos is…fashion is still here.’”

Then starting at the crown, hair was divided into three-inch-wide sections and, one by one, each section was sprayed with the new René Furterer Vegetal Finishing Spray before it was curled around the rod of a one-inch curling iron. “The spray is very light,” says Sean. “We use it to set the hair as it’s very malleable. I love using the René Furterer products because they help women get a healthy look, a look that they can do themselves. ”

When using the curling iron, Sean had it set on high heat and applied high tension as he curled each section. “When rolling the hair, using heat and tension actually restructures the hair. As hair cools, it cools into the shape we’ve created. We leave the iron in for a few seconds, until heat transfers evenly through the section. Once I see a little steam rise, I know the hair is set. After the rod slips out, we secure the curl with a pin-curl clip.”

The hair in front around the part was curled and pinned last, starting on the left side of the part. “We take sections in sort of a pie shape, in an arc around the part,” says Sean. Once all sections cooled, clips were removed. After releasing curls, hair was brushed through. “You get that gorgeous finish just by brushing the hair,” says Sean.

Next, brushed-out hair was spritzed with René Furterer Glossing Spray for extra shine. “You get this beautiful look, this finished movie star look, ready for the red carpet,” says Sean. Last, hair was sprayed with the new René Furterer Vegetal Finishing Spray. “Look at that shine,” says Sean. “You don’t get that with a lacquer spray. There’s no residue. We finish with the Finishing Spray for hold that will last all night.”

Sean called the glamorous long, loose version of the Pin-Up Girl Meets the Beach his “City Mouse” look. For a few of the models he created the more casual “Country Mouse” version, simply by taking a section around the face on both sides of the part, pulling it back, twisting and rolling it and pinning it into place.

The finishing touches: gorgeously fake eyelashes, strong eyeliner and bold red lips from celebrity makeup artist Sharon Gault of Opus Beauty and her team—the perfect complement to the shining, flowing tresses designed by Sean James. The models were ready for show-time. And after guests enjoyed the evening of spring fashion and beauty, they exited to receive their Minnie Mortimer gift bag, which included another of Sean’s faves: the René Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo.

Sean James was born and raised in Australia, where his career as a hairstylist began to flourish when he trained with Australia's leading hairstylist Oscar Cullinan. In 1989, Sean moved to London where he trained with Vidal Sassoon. A few years later in 1992, Sean moved to Los Angeles, where he became an educator and color specialist working at the Los Angeles Flagship store for L’Oreal. In 2001, Sean was brought on as a valued member of the prestigious creative team for Redken, where he began doing many years of fashion weeks in Los Angeles, New York, and Paris.
Sean has worked with celebrities such as Jaime Pressly, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rufus Wainwright, Emily Blunt, Rita Wilson, Rhada Mitchell, Lindsay Lohan, Uma Therman, Holly Valance, Jamie Chung ,Leonard Cohen ,Teddy Thompson Dylan & Cole Sprouse and many more. He works consistently on films, commercials, television, advertising campaigns, and he is sought after all over the world.

Most recently, Sean was a member of the exclusive Balmain team as the US representative at Paris Fashion week. He Lead the RUSK team for the Monarchy collection at NY fashion week, He has been featured on the E! network, the Style network, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and MTV’s The Hills and is currently on the style networks "How Do I Look ". He has also been featured in world renowned publications such as Harper’ Bazaar, InStyle, WWD, The New York Times, and More, just to name a few.

Most recently Sean in involved in a giving back to the community project , which he created executive produced and co wrote with Seth Shellhouse , called" Halfway Home", a makeover show for people graduating from assisted living , and getting their lives back on Track .

Very few shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week offer the magnificent stylings for both men and women on the same runway. One of the few (and one of my favorites) was the MONARCHY Collection... and it offered the best of both worlds (meaning the worlds of hair and fashion). 13 stylists, led by Sean James for Rusk, worked fast and furiously on these models, many of whom walked in with just 5 minutes for prep!

The women hit the runway.

For the female models, James blended a 70's disco curl with an 80's scrunchy perm.

A Sloan Ranger

The men's looks were a nod to the "Sloan Rangers in London", a term referring to a combination of "Sloane Square," a location in Chelsea famed for the wealth of its residents, and the television Western character "The Lone Ranger."

James made it simple to recreate. He prepped damp hair with RUSK THICK and blow dried the hair while smoothing it out. He then isolated the hairline sections and set them forward toward the face, creating a face frame. The remaining hair was set in a classic set using inch sections wrapping the hair from the base to the ends using tension and high heat, creating a tighter and consistent curl.

In finishing the look, Sean flipped the head upside down and sprayed with W8LESS shaping spray, lightly separating the curl, making the look full and soft at the same time.

It was an amazing time at Mercedes Benz fashion week ,doing hair For the Monarchy collection.

There was so much going on backstage we where there with Rusk supporting us , Makeup forever was doing the Faces with Sharon Gualt Muse of David La Chappele and Of Madonnas "Truth And Dare" Fame, doing the faces.

It really was quite a show , Teddy Thompson , who is on a world Tour opening up for Elton John , stopped by , for a look for possible clothes to wear on the tour, Also Justin Timberlake & Shannon Elisabeth and many others where seen in the audience. It was a spectacular show! The 2010 Spring/Summer Collection was fabulously presented by Eric Kim, styled by Laura Duncan, makeup by Sharon Gault and Makeup Forever, and the hair was executed beautifully by Sean James.

To create the look Sean James prepped damp hair with RUSK THICK and blowdried into hair smoothing it out. THICK gives the hair texture and control to hold the curl and give fullness around the crown area. To achieve the look . . isolate the hairline sections and set forward toward the face, creating a face frame. The remaining hair is set in a classic set using 1/2'' sections over directing the sections using tension and high heat, creating a tighter and consistent curl, and wrapping the hair from the base to the ends. In finishing the look Sean flipped the head upside down and sprayed with W8LESS shaping spray, lightly separating the curl yet not to loosen, making it full and soft at the same time. Combined with makeup and clothing the look was complete. Sean was also shooting his new show "Halfway Home " and being a correspondant for Beautyfix.

Apparel News, Spring Photo shoot- Los Angeles

I had fun working with nationwide distributed "California Apparel News" (LA based) and collaborating with stylist Jayne Seward, makeup artist Garret Gervais and photographer Ben Cope at "BOXeight" studios in Los Angeles where we created a fresh Spring look. The hair was styled by slicking it back on the female model, Aleks from Photogenics and tightening the haircut of the male model, Tomas of Nous Models. I used the L'OREAL Elnet Satin spray I brought back from my recent trip to the UK. Other Products used were Kerastase Double Force Hairspray and Mousse Nutri-Sculpt. Garret Gervais created the makeup look inspired by a monochromatic feel with a strong brow. The clothing will be featured next Friday in Apparel News.

Picture taken after cutting Dylan and Coles aptly named "Dogtown shag." This is there current look featured on Disney's "SUITE LIFE ON DECK." Products used was RUSK's Wired and Gleam. My Assistant Katie and I gifted them a generous bag of RUSK products ( as seen in the picture ) for their 17th birthday. They will be lookng sharp!

Its always a pleasure seeing them grow into fine, responsible young men.

Collaborating with Monarchy Collection and its designer Eric Kim was a fantastic experience as it always is. Joico Sponsored the event while I created with my team, organized by my faithful gorgeous assistant Katie, more "anti-hair," dressage chic looks. Gregory Arlt created the makeup look for MAC Cosmetics. Styling was executed by Laura Duncan. The end result was a stunning view of whats to come. Monarchy was rated among the top ten designers in Milan, Paris and New York. Thank You to Jeryl Spear and Kari Frost of Launchpad Magazine for giving us great coverage in Augusts issue.

In Jays Last week on air I was fortunate enough to get to to do Jamie lee Curtis's hair for he last night on the show .

As usual Jays team where so welcoming , and as a true gentleman Jay came backstage to greet Jamie & wish her luck before she went out on stage to sit with him as he always did . there was usually a very dirty joke told whenever he came backstage this night although this was the exception Jay seemed a little more reflective .

I miss the show, But glad I can share with you this fond memory taken on my photo booth , which was kind of a theme for the episode , Jamie & Jay where making fun of how people use hand signs in pictures on their facebook pages . On the left Is Camille Clarke Jamie's longtime Makeup artist, together she and I are appropriately called The Vanities , we care!

The episode was a hit Jamie was Very funny as usual

I was fortunate enough to meet China Chow and do her hair last night, while makeup artist Kerri Malouf brightend up her face with Mineral makeup ZUZU, for an event for a wonderful new skin care line called Arcona.

The event was at VIE Eco boutique on west 3rd st. In LA.

Thrown by M.M.L .pr all the usual suspects from the fashion world where there , stylst B. the editors from IN STYLE .Emily Deschanel from Bones, jewelery designer Nancy Bennet from SIDVINTAGE, along with a sophisticated group of women having their faces primped & scrubbed by Arcona,

There a bout three other men ,besides myself. One of them being Kevin Anderson the president of Arcona. It was really a very nice eve

In the making is my new makeover show , "Halfway Home" , a show helping people with unfortunate Life & style situations, giving them help & guidance to live with a more modern take on their life and style .

Giving them that extra help to move on with their life, and a way from their past bad choices and /or unfortunate situations.

It is an exciting goal to have , having been inspired by Oprahs" living your best life" and I've decided to take control.

My action, trying to find a way that I can give back to my community, having made many bad choices myself , I want to move forward with this new direction , and that is one of service , look out, & watch it happen , best foot forward .

What an amazing time I had working on the new season of "How do I look," on the Style network. Hollywood Blvd. was shut down for the reveal on a Friday night! It was a big operation. Executive producer Riaz Patel and senior Producer Camilla Rahaman, formerly from American Idol, have done an amazing job doing an actual makeover on the show itself . I cant wait until it airs.

New host Jeannie Mai, is charismatic and caring & guides our fashion challenged Melissa Telwar though the steps .

My job was to do the hair transformation & morph Melissa, formerly nicknamed "Turtle," ( due to hiding under a beanie ) into a newly made over more respectable young woman & wow does she emerge with some makeup help by my assistant Katie Oneil and wardobe by Bory Tan, we hope she keeps it up !

Great job everyone! I look forward to finding out about coming back for episode six. fingers crossed everyone. I would love to be doing my own makeover show, it was so much fun .
